OH BOY, YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE ASKED.... I am now you going to dispense a tl;dr about Megaman and you will regret your choices.

Megaman's pretty huge, yeah! It's not actually one series, but 7 series that all fall under the name Megaman! There's the classic Megaman series, Megaman X, Megaman Zero, Megaman ZX, Megaman Legends, Megaman Battle Network and Megaman Starforce. Classic, X, Zero, ZX and Legends all follow the same chronology, in that order, but are barely linked otherwise. Battle Network and Starforce could be considered a parallel universe, where instead of focusing on robotics the world focused on communications and internet technology.

Within each series are several games.... the shortest are Legends and ZX. Legends has three games, Legends 1 and 2 and the spinoff the Misadventures of Tron Bonne. ZX has only ZX and ZX Advent. Zero has 4 games, Starforce has 3 games, 1-3, Battle Network has 6 if you don't count Operate Shooting Star and 4.5. Megaman classic and X are the longest ones, with X having I think 12 games if you include the remake, and classic having....uh. According to the wiki over 30 games....

BUT HONESTLY you don't have to play any of the games to get into the canon. Most of the games are platformers and lord do I suck at them, so I've never played them. Legends is more of an RPG, and the Battle Network and Starforce series are definitely RPGs. And if I had to be honest, the writing for all the Megaman games is severely lacking. To put it nicely. To put it not so nicely it's utter crap LMAO. I find the appeal in Megaman's not so much in what's there, but what isn't there, in canon. There are so many blanks that you can easily fill it with your own speculation and headcanons and that's where some of the fun comes from. Also, who doesn't like robots who struggle over their own existence?

BUT TO ACTUALLY ANSWER YOUR QUESTION IN GETTING INTO MEGAMAN

Classic's basically about a robot, Megaman, built by Dr. Light, the leading roboticist, who goes around fighting other robots sent by Dr. Wily, Dr. Light's former friend/coworker but now enemy. That's literally the story lmao. Well, there's a bit more to it but not much, you could probably find a three sentence summary of each game that will tell you all you need to know. If you want to get into classic, there are tons of playthroughs on youtube. The games are all on Nintendo eshop as well if you wanna play them. But if you want some meat, you should read Archie's Megaman comic. It's a really good portrayal of the series that adds a lot more depth than the games have, and I'd say it's still pretty damn faithful to the series. You can read it here but I'd encourage buying the comics if you like them, because Archie's in a bit of a financial problem right now and was forced to take a hiatus on Megaman as a result. GIVE THEM MONEY SO THEY CAN CONTINUE DAMMIT--

There's also the Megaman Megamix/Gigamix manga, which is less faithful but no less entertaining. You can't read them online since they've been licensed here, though....

Megaman X is about a robot built by Dr. Light, X, who... is basically the father of the robot species in this game, Reploids, and these Reploids are all going berserk because of a virus so now he has to go destroy the berserk Reploids 8) Also he's a sweet guy who doesn't like fighting sO (and his partner Zero was built by Dr. Wily MMMMMMMM) If you wanna get into Megaman X (the most interesting in my opinion)... well, honestly your best bet is watching playthroughs (or playing them bc they're on eshop or PSN I forget which.) There's no good manga or anything for this series (and I am mad about this everyday lemme tell u). You can always read the wiki for everything if you wanna get some background info, it definitely helps. And fandom is a big part of keeping the series interesting, because there's a bunch of us who love to get technical and into the nitty gritty of this series' crapsack world. ..and then there's the other like 80% who just likes robot smut LMAO

Megaman Zero's about Zero going around helping a Resistance against a copy of X who's basically gone kooky and declared Reploids to be Mavericks that need to be trashed. Funtimes. ZX's plot is so bizarre I don't even know how to summarize it besides let's use the old heroes' souls to be mahou shoujos IDFK also something something fate. Legends takes place thousands of years after ZX, where all humans are wiped out, replaced by an artificial equivalent called carbons, and people wanna blow up the world 8) Zero, ZX and Legends are all series that you'll have to watch playthroughs for or read up on the wiki, because there's no supplementary stuff. I cry. IMO these three series aren't that interesting though, and you'll find the bulk of Megaman fans aren't interested in these series either. Zero I think is getting onto eshop or PSN now, ZX is on DS so you'll have to hunt for the cartridge or download roms. Legends is on PSN.

Battle Network is a whole other beast. It's about how the internet is so advanced everyone gets a personal AI to help them navigate the net, and well, there are cyber terrorists hellbent on breaking shit so it's up to this fuckin fifth grader and his AI buddy to set things right!!! 8DDD It's more like a kids/shounen series but the battle system is incredibly fun and addictive, AND this series has an actual anime! Hallejulah! ...it's still in the middle of translation BUT they're on the last seasons now so you can indeed watch the earlier seasons somewhere. It's fun, but you'll get the most out of Battle Network if you play the games, which are alllll on eshop for the Wii U (WHY, THEY WERE ORIGINALLY GBA GAMES WTF MAN).

Same with Starforce. Starforce is about radio wave aliens (I shit you not) and they want to destroy Earth or get some ancient artifacts for some ancient civilization floating in some pocket space or I DON'T EVEN REMEMBER THE THIRD GAME'S PLOT ANYMORE and yeah uh apparently the radio wave aliens can combine with humans for mahou shoujo transformations yeah!!!!!! They have an anime, but the budget's so shit for it each ep's like 10 mins and it really only covers 2 games. The Starforce anime was only good for giving Game 1's antagonists a little bit more personality tbh. Play the games. They're on the DS and they're good.

There's also a few spinoff stuff and a mobile game that is universally reviled by the fandom ahahahaha (But the protag is cute)

Honestly you don't have to get into every single Megaman series! That's insane. It's good to have passing knowledge on all of them, but people usually focus in on one or two series. My fave is Megaman X, followed by classic and Battle Network. I don't care as much about the rest.

My favorite anime is Baccano!, because... well, because it's freakin' awesome. The characters are all ridiculous and just crazy enough to be lovable, the nonlinear storytelling is super cool (Episode 1 actually gives away the end of every plot point in the show, but you have no idea until you rewatch it), and the dub, man, the dub is perfect. All those American accents and 1930s gangster slang, ughhhh, this is definitely one anime where dub trumps sub tbh. Also there are immortal mafias and fights atop moving trains, and Isaac and Miria are my waifus.
